Some weekly meal deliveries are covered by state or private insurance plans. State, federal, and community organizations and programs connect people with essential services, including medically tailored meals (MTMs). According to the California Department of Aging, “The California Department of Aging contracts with and oversees . . . a variety of services for older adults, adults with disabilities, informal caregivers, and family caregivers,” including home delivery services. LifeSpring Home Nutrition partners with multiple providers and state programs to ensure vulnerable individuals. Mission statements provide information on how people can connect with our services.
LifeSpring Home Nutrition works with insurance providers to ensure clients receive the highest quality service and nutritional support. According to Cathleen Anthony, M.B.A., owner of LifeSpring Home Nutrition, “As a Company, we believe in offering the dignity of choice . . . We feel that no one should feel like a burden, and everyone deserves to be cared for. We can’t stand the thought of anyone going unnoticed or suffering in silence. Our goal is to give quality services and meals to those who never thought they could afford a Dietitian or specialized meals.”
Food is medicine, and weekly meal deliveries fill a gap in healthcare by reducing preventable conditions, aiding in recovery from medical conditions, and providing a positive social connection. LifeSpring Home Nutrition works with healthcare providers and insurance agencies to ensure people with medical conditions and other needs have access to the following:
Everyone has different needs and preferences. LifeSpring Home Nutrition believes everyone deserves to be treated with respect and compassion. Each person should be free to choose what they eat and when while receiving the support and resources they need to make educated decisions about their diet and general health.
Mission statements embody company values and guide staff, ensuring clients share a consistent experience. LifeSpring Home Nutrition practices the following values:
Every staff member uses these values to guide their actions and how they interact with individuals in the community.
Not every insurance plan covers meal delivery options. However, individuals in California have many options for affordable and dependable meal delivery services. LifeSpring Home Nutrition partners with multiple programs and has contracts with various providers.
A few of the providers LifeSpring Home Nutrition partners with include:
Medicaid and Medicare coverage plans may not cover home meal delivery services. However, Medicare Advantage plans supplement Medicare coverage and can include meal services, including MTMs, for some individuals. People with special dietary needs should check with their insurance provider to determine if they have coverage for in-home meal delivery services. LifeSpring Home Nutrition can serve people with many standard health plans.
Delivery drivers and registered dieticians (RDs) often recognize the needs of clients they meet with regularly. In addition, older adults living alone may not always recognize when they need assistance. LifeSpring Home Nutrition acts as a safety check and provides disadvantaged or vulnerable individuals with information about how to access relevant community programs, services, and organizations. Insured people are often unaware of the many resources available in their community. Delivery drivers and RDs can pass along this information to ensure people get the help they need.
Some gaps currently exist in community healthcare. LifeSpring Home Nutrition fills some of them by educating, offering social support, reducing strain on the healthcare system, and providing balanced meals to individuals who otherwise may not have access to essential nutrients.
The company’s mission is to ensure all people have the opportunity to live healthy and fulfilling lives. Values practiced by every employee support the mission of LifeSpring Home Nutrition. Each staff member, contractor, and partner helps bridge the gap between clients and healthcare providers.
Below is additional information on federal, state, and local services related to MTMs and other meal delivery services.
Each county has services for seniors, disabled residents, those who struggle with addiction, children, veterans, indigenous persons, and low-income residents in need of support. The services may be separate from Medicare or Medi-Cal. For example, the Office of Aging (OOA), WIC, and Behavioral Mental Health often cover meals for the people they serve. Individuals not covered by Medi-Cal can contact a local healthcare agency to receive assistance with food, shelter, and social services if they need services. Visit https://www.counties.org/county-websites-profile-information for further assistance.
Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid healthcare program. The program offers various medical services for children and adults with limited income and resources. CalFresh, CalWorks, and CalWin are a part of the system, as is California’s advancing and innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM), which puts people’s needs at the center of care. CalAIM provides coordinated support to meet each Medi-Cal enrollee’s physical, developmental, behavioral, and dental health needs, as well as long-term services and health-related social support. Meal benefits are a large part of CalAIM and are approved at 12-week intervals with the guidance of an RD. Contact your local Medi-Cal provider or Social Services Agency (SSA) to request eligible criteria for medically tailored meals and other benefits.
A Medicare Advantage Plan is a supplemental insurance plan covering medical benefits Medicare cannot. Some of the coverage offered by the Medicare Advantage Plan includes meal benefits, long-term care services (LTCS), in-home social services (IHSS), Medi-Medi Plans for dual special needs plans (SNP), chronic special needs plans (CSNP) and institutional special needs plans (ISNP) as well as post-hospitalization services. The cost is significantly lower than private insurance, and many organizations, such as Scan HealthPlan and Kaiser Permanente, provide these services. Also, many of these insurance companies have several plans and meal benefits. Contact your provider and ask them about eligibility requirements. Often, they are included as supplemental payouts.
LifeSpring Home Nutrition strives to ensure everyone has equal access to nourishing meals and essential health resources. To learn more about our services and how to receive weekly meal deliveries, call us today at (800) 798-5767.
